Most of us fail miserably at New Year's Resolutions because we HATE RESOLUTIONS!! But what if you found something you loved to do or would love to do and made a resolution about that. Well here's the method I am using this year and I am starting right now to get my resolution in place so come January 1, 2015 I am ready to go.
You are just five steps away from having a wonderful year!
Create a table and identify some things you would love to do. Write something you would love to do in the boxes of your table. It is most important that anything you write down is something YOU actually would enjoy. Here is my list:
fit into the clothes I bought last year;
feel confident about drawing and sketching;
finish writing the memoir I began a while back. There's more but that's enough for now.
Now pick one of the things you just identified, something you feel energy and passion about. I really want to learn how to draw so that's the one I am picking. Close your eyes and picture yourself succeeding at this. Take your time and get as much detail as possible.
This next step is very important. Write down in as much detail what you just pictured. DO NOT PUT THIS OFF!
Write what you looked like?
Write what you were doing?
Write how you felt? Any detail from the picture that will help you really solidify this image.
Now identify what it will take for you to make this mental image you created into a reality? Write down the steps you need to take in order to actualize your dream. So in order to become confident at drawing, I need to:
sign up for a drawing course;
purchase the art supplies I need;
create a space where I can draw;
identify time to practice. My goal is by the end of 2015 to feel confident in drawing whatever I see.
Review regularly your description, your steps, and celebrate the progress you are making. If possible find others who share a similar interest or similar goals. The encouragement you receive will be invaluable.
Well there it is. It's all up to you now.
